Introduction:

The first thing to say about the term “British accents” is that this is an American concept that actually doesn’t exist. Because there is English English, Scottish English, Welsh English and Irish English. Each are separate countries joined together as a union. As in “The United Kingdom” The UK. This explains it without any further explanation. Each country also having a variety of regional accents. The Australians, Americans, Indians and the rest have accents. But the English speak English English.  There is no such thing as “British English” As an Englishman myself I see the term “British English” as simply the Americans trying to walk off with our language, like they tried to do with everything else.
