The Peripheral Neuropathy Newsletter #1

Each week I will be publishing a new newsletter entitled “The Peripheral Neuropathy Newsletter” Why:  I believe that there is a growing epidemic of this debilitating disease and nothing is being talked about it.  I also believe that your local GP doesn’t really understand anything about it. That has to change.

The Hidden Epidemic: Why Lower Limb Neuropathy is Surging (And What You Can Actually Do About It)
If you’ve been dealing with the relentless pins and needles, burning, or dull ache of lower limb neuropathy, you might feel like you’re on an isolated island. Except, you’re not. In fact, you’re part of a massive, rarely talked-about wave.

The Scale of the Crisis
Neuropathy is quietly reaching epidemic proportions. Globally, neuropathic pain affects an estimated 580 to 830 million people, and projections show that number climbing toward 853 million by 2050.
If you look at specific demographics, the numbers are even starker:
Age and Vulnerability: In adults over 70, the prevalence of peripheral neuropathy jumps to nearly 27%.
The Metabolic Driver: Driven largely by the global surge in pre-diabetes and Type 2 diabetes, diabetic peripheral neuropathy now accounts for nearly half of all neuropathic conditions, impacting up to half of all diagnosed diabetics over time.

The Medical Gap: What’s Missing?
When you visit a doctor for nerve pain, the typical script is predictable: blood tests, a prescription for nerve-calming medications (like gabapentin or pregabalin), and a well-meaning shoulder shrug.
Often, you’re handed a pamphlet and told to “manage expectations.”
While medical intervention has its place, it frequently leaves a massive gap when it comes to the day-to-day reality of living with the condition. It doesn’t tell you how to handle the evening ache that ruins your sleep. It doesn’t give you a clear map for positioning your relief tools, and it rarely addresses the mental weight of chronic discomfort.

What to Expect Here
This newsletter isn’t about medical jargon or impossible-to-follow clinical protocols. It’s a practical, no-nonsense space built on lived experience.
