Intermediate / Advanced English: Difficult sounds in English when you are Arabic. Lesson Three

Five conversation topics to discuss whilst correcting the sounds you find difficult.

Great conversation topics to help an Egyptian English student practice challenging English sounds (such as /p/) include: favourite travel destinations (to practice “v” and “th” sounds in “travel” and “with”), popular foods and recipes (“vegetable,” “pizza,” “fish,” “juice”), discussing hobbies or sports (“playing,” “volleyball,” “athletics,” “photography”), talking about family members and their jobs (“father,” “brother,” “physician,” “engineer”), and sharing opinions on movies or music (“genre,” “vision,” “theme,” “thriller”). These topics naturally incorporate words with tricky sounds, offering plenty of pronunciation practice.

1).  Discuss the most interesting places you have visited. (10 minutes)

2).  Discuss your favourite foods.  (10 minutes)

3).  Talk about the place where you normally live.  (10 minutes)

4).  Discuss your favourite movies & music.  (10 minutes)

5). Describe a typical food from your home country and describe to your teacher in detail how to cook it.  (10 minutes)

6).  Free choice.  (10 minutes)

Remember that during each section the teacher will correct your pronunciation. Repeat the word correctly and then continue.
