ADVANCED / INTERMEDIATE English Lesson: Student leads the conversation

Always remember that during the lesson we are continuing our RP practice to be able to improve our pronunciation and diction.

In this lesson it’s time for the student to stand alone and lead the conversation.

“THE BALL IS IN YOUR COURT”

An expression that means, it’s time for you to make the decisions.

You may choose from the following sections to have a 45 minute conversation about.

  • Cultural Differences: Discuss unique cultural traditions or customs from different countries and their significance.

  • Technology and Its Impact: Explore how technology is changing communication and daily life.

  • Travel and Tourism: Share experiences or dream destinations, and discuss the benefits of traveling.

  • Environmental Issues: Talk about climate change, pollution, and what individuals can do to help the environment.

  • Hobbies and Interests: Discuss favourite hobbies, how they relax or inspire, and learn about the teacher’s interests.

  • Education Systems: Compare education systems from around the world and discuss the strengths and weaknesses of each.

  • Current Events: Choose a current news topic and discuss its implications and your opinions on the matter.

  • Health and Fitness: Talk about the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle and share tips for staying active.

  • Books and Literature: Discuss favorite books, authors, and the impact of literature on personal growth.

  • Career Aspirations: Talk about future career goals, the skills needed for those careers, and how to achieve them.

Once a student reaches a certain level of knowledge the most important aspect of using a new language is the ability to use their knowledge in a social or formal setting. Here we have the opportunity to show off our skills.
